Great American Clean-Up

SEE PHOTOS FROM PREVIOUS GACs!

The GAC is a national program of KAB's 500+ affiliates that for the past 20 years has united community activists in one day each spring of trash and litter pick-up that also includes activities such as renovating playgrounds, cleaning up waterways and seashores, planting trees, beautifying parks, graffiti removal and building restoration, conducting recycling collections, youth education and litter-free events. Several national partners provide financial support for the event. A major goal for the GAC is one of education, where the impact of the amassed litter collected points to the need for behavioral and attitude change by community residents. In 2009 approximately 3 million people nation-wide volunteered for the Clean-Up. This past year in Baton Roueg, 36,720 pounds of trash were collected; in addition 30 pounds of donated clothing were collected, five houses were painted, one Waste-In-Place Workshop was held, and one playground was cleaned. A total of 529 individuals contributed 2,710 volunteer hours.

The 2010 Great American Clean-Up will be Saturday, March 20th.
This will include extensive community participation, especially Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. .
